It seems like most people think, "We have water for everything we need. Doesn't everybody?" but in fact, over a billion people on our planet do not have daily, immediate access to safe drinking water.
Many, mostly women and girls, walk up to 6 hours a day to get water. Others drink contaminated water and get sick.
2.2 million people, mostly children, die every year--that's 6,000 every day--because their water is unsafe.
The Blue Planet Run Foundation has opened my eyes to so many water-related issues, the most important of which is that the global water crisis does not have to exist! For as little as $30, one person can have safe water for his or her entire life.
So far, the Blue Planet Run Foundation has helped build over 142 safe water projects and benefited over 137,000 people all over the world, but this is just the beginning. In the inaugural Blue Planet Run 2007, 21 committed individuals ran 15,200 miles - around the world! - to raise awareness and funds to solve the global water crisis. They delivered a vital message, "Water is life. Pass it on."
I hope you'll visit http://blueplanetrun.org, and pass on this important message to other people you know and care about. To learn more and to donate, go to http://blueplanetrun.org/ext/messengerforms/.
The solution is so simple, but we need to act now.
