Verdant Helps Blue Planet Run Foundation Go Green

Verdant Power will donate all the RECs (Renewable Energy Credits) from its six underwater turbines in New York City's East River to Blue Planet Run Foundation.

Verdant Power is a sustainable energy company developing free-flow turbine system projects that generate utility and village scale electric power from natural underwater currents. These systems can be adapted to develop other community-based services, such as irrigation, desalinization, creating potable water, oxygenating anoxic waters, and producing hydrogen through electrolysis. Verdant Power is the recipient of the prestigious 2006 National Hydropower Association's “President's Award.”

Blue Planet Run Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to raising global awareness about the lack of safe drinking water, and funding working solutions today for the billion people living without ready access to this life sustaining resource. Since 2004, the U.S.-based foundation has funded 135 sustainable water projects in 13 countries which will provide over 100,000 people with safe drinking water. The Foundation's signature awareness and fundraising event is the Blue Planet Run, the first-ever around-the-world running relay. The Foundation’s innovation in philanthropy is the Peer Water Exchange – an online platform that connects field experts around the world to efficiently and transparently scale up the implementation of diverse grassroots water projects and community initiatives.

The 2007 Blue Planet Run is designed to be as sustainable as possible. The transportation-generated carbon dioxide emissions of the Run will be offset through projects. Verdant Power’s credits will offset the office operations and the electricity used during the Run in hotels and other places along the route. Blue Planet Run Foundation will not only be a carbon neutral organization but will also promote low and responsible consumption of resources, to inspire others to strive to do the same.

Blue Planet Run’s partnership with Verdant Power will not only test a new technology, but prove on American soil and water that renewable energy is a valid alternative for our future.

This partnership gives Verdant Power international attention for its innovative renewable energy projects and Blue Planet Run to prove it's possible to create a global event while being an environmental steward.
