With the last few days of our run looming and the month changing, emotions are swelling like I mentioned in my previous blog. For some runners it is coming out in little conflicts that are merely a reflection of how powerful this journey has been for them. Although the drama for a few is their way of ridding the air of their anxiety, for Taeko and I it is in running with each other and on each other's team for double shifts while we soak in our 'WOW!!! Around the world!' feeling.
Running up the meridian in Rockville just 10 miles north of Washington DC, was fun in the early morning as I am sure their was some cool cooler talk going on at work that day. Two days ago I was in the Baltimore Harbour MC'ing the exchange point before running with Taeko for our first run together since our marriage. We started at 7:30 and had many smiles as we faded into the evening. The day before she joined me on the bike as I ran 10 very hilly miles and managed to pop into a local radio station as I was running by to give an announcement that we were running through town. Yesterday the streets of Philadelphia had Taeko and I running 20 miles together for the 1:30 - 4:30 PM shifts. As both of us are now starting to feel the start lines of future races coming up, our focus is starting to narrow for our running. Despite the thrill of the BPR run coming to an end, it is also a thrilling and exciting time as we both look to the stars and reflect on our life together that is starting to begin.
Poem of the Day:
The effect of our journey
around the world is still
to be known in the eyes
ears and hearts of many
but for us who together
put foot in front of another
we will forever hear
see and feel the steps of each
of us running together.
September 27, 2007... and still on the run!
When I think about all the great times and places that I visited this past summer, I am also reminded of all the great people.
