The Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie/Koninklijke Muntschouwburg building near central Brussels was the backdrop for the exchange point this morning. It was fitting that what could be considered the birthplace of Belgium also served as the Blue Planet Run’s first major exchange point.

Crowds gathered around the square on the hazy Sunday morning, partaking in the free water, chocolates, stickers and photos. Children played about as the delicious scent of fresh-baked Belgian waffles filled the air. Simon Isaacs ran the baton in, handing it off to Laurel Dudley. She and Simon introduced themselves and the Blue Planet Run in French, handing the mike to Rudy van Prooyen (our newest celebrity/media darling, Rudy's practically on a press trip around Belgium and the Netherlands!) intermittently so he could read the message in Dutch. Laurel then ran north, the gathered masses cheering her on through the busy streets of Brussels.

Tommorrow: Terneuzen, the Netherlands and Antwerp, Belgium!

Steve Williams, regional manager for the Asian route from Moscow through Japan, tracks the route.
