Willkommen in Deutschland! The Blue Planet Run “gets down” in Northern Germany

Sunil rund toward an exchange point in Germany

You’ve seen Sean Harrington run into La Defense and speak excitedly to the crowd in French. You’ve seen Brynn Harrington sprint into Antwerp and wow the crowd with her enthusiasm and passion. You’ve even see Lansing Brewer do his famous “Brewer Hop” out of Amsterdam. But did you know that there is a detergent with the same name as their fourth fantastic teammate, the ever-smiling Sunil Jayaraj? It took a jaunt into a local drugstore in the village of Wildeshausen, Germany, on Day 13 for Team Orange to discover that Sunil not only makes your day brighter but also makes your clothes brighter.

Exchange points between teams have become places where more than a baton is passed between runners — they share hugs, photos, stories and laughs during the brief moment of downtime. This morning was no exception. At 8 a.m., Team Green (minus Jason Loutitt, who was running into the point) pulled into a small parking lot off a German highway to make the exchange with Team Orange. Ingmar, Team Orange’s driver, opened up the van doors and cranked up the tunes, inspiring Simon Isaacs to beatbox like Young M.C. Sean began busting a move, followed by Dot Helling and Brynn. The group formed a circle around the lively Lansing Brewer, who is no stranger to performing. His patented “Old Man Dance” elicited howls of laughter from his fellow runners. Sunil snapped photos, and Laura Furtado yelled jokingly, “You guys are OUT of the box!” These runners definitely prove that sometimes you just gotta let it all hang out.

Blue Planet Run is continuing along northern Germany tonight, heading from Stade to Hamburg tomorrow and winding down toward Berlin for the major exchange point on Friday, June 15.
