Route Highlights
A Tour of the Globe
In just over three months, members of the Blue Planet Run Team have had their
passport stamped from 16 different countries with one goal in mind: clean water
for EVERYONE. To reach a much broader audience, a mix of rolling countryside
and urban travel destinations were the backdrop for this trek across the Northern
Hemisphere.
The skyscrapers and crowded crosswalks of New York City served as the inauguration of the 2007 Blue Planet Run. New York City, home to millions, is one of the most iconic cities in the United States, whose importance to American citizens goes without mention. Crossing "the Pond," the team set foot on the rolling, green hills of Ireland. No time to stop and have a pint though, because they had a continent to navigate and the metropolises of Japan are many footsteps away.

Stops near landmark tourist destinations such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Red Square in Moscow and the Great Wall in Beijing succeeded in connecting with thousands of people in one location by utilizing exchange points - pre-determined sites where one runner finished and the next began, designed to involve the audience and provide the media with a place to cover the event.
Face-to-face interaction was equally important in spreading this message. The route passed through small towns in Siberia, through the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and through the hard-working towns in middle America - raising global awareness of the situations in these seldom-mentioned parts of the world. How exciting would it be for a worldwide event such as the Blue Planet Run to come through a town which hardly sees an automobile drive through?
