Alfonso Alem Rojo

Alfonso Alem Rojo offers more than 20 years of experience in the governmental, NGO, private and public service sectors on human and indigenous rights defense, international policy design, sustainable development promotion, and social activism. He has an academic background as Chemical Engineer and post graduate studies on Social and Political Sciences. As Congressman, Diplomatic, Executive Director of Rigoberta Menchu Tum Foundation, and as an independent consultant of national and international organizations. Alfonso has been dedicated to promoting a culture of peace to lay the foundations of the multicultural world in which he firmly believes.

He is a board member of the Rigoberta Menchu Tum Foundation and a member of the World Commission of Protected Areas of IUCN and the International Coalition for Cultural Diversity.

He has been a Consultant with OAS on Sustainable Development Summit, Technical Agenda, with International Labor Organization, UNICEF, UNDP and Inter-American Institute of Human Rights on Indigenous Peoples Rights and participation, and with GEF on positioning Natural and Cultural Diversity and conservation policies as the environmental issues focal point within Bolivia's Constitutional process. Alfonso speaks at international forums such as the World Conference Against Racism, the convention on Biological Diversity, the World Summit on Sustainable Development, and the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
