The Only Half-Marathon in Adelaide's North

The Salisbury Half Marathon holds a neat distinction: it is the only half-marathon in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. Launched in 2016, it has grown quickly into one of the region's most celebrated running events.

The out-and-back course starts at Carisbrooke Reserve — watered by the Little River — and threads through the parklands and streets of Salisbury. Partially closed roads keep runners safe, while locals line the route offering water alongside the organizers' stations placed every three miles. The flat terrain suits everyone from first-timers to competitive athletes.

Medallions go to everyone who completes 21.1 km, 10 km, or 5 km. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the half-marathon, plus first place in the 10 km and 5 km categories. Every participant receives a technical race shirt.

On the Course

Signing up for the full 21.1 km as an amateur felt bold — but the flat, scenic route made it manageable. The opening stretch settled the legs into a rhythm. The run through the parklands was the highlight: lush grass, surrounding greenery, and the buzz of supporters along the course lifted both body and spirit.

My goal was to enjoy the race, not chase a personal best — and the course made that easy.

The final stage led toward the finish. By then the medal winners had long finished, but with the finish line in sight there was just enough left to push hard to the end.

Race Day

The event drew strong regional competition across all three distances.

Beyond the racing, charity runners, live music at the start village, and choirs along the route turned the day into a genuine community celebration — proof that a well-run local event can be as memorable as any major city race.
